Green liripipe hood

Green liripipe hood

This green open hood is based on an extant hood from Herjolfsnes (no.78). The original garment has been carbon dated to 1352-1442. This type of hood can also be seen in illustrated manuscripts, for example Postilla in Bibliam (France, circa 1380-1395) and The Comedies of Terence (France, circa 1400-1407).

According to several medieval illustrations this type of hood was most commonly worn by women.
